Fair groups.
In one click.
Stop sorting by hand. Slams seeds your entrants automatically by playing strength. Fair groups, balanced on level, ready in seconds.
Why seeding by hand doesn’t scale
Up to 20 entrants
You know everyone. A spreadsheet or a coffee with your co-organiser is enough. It takes 20 minutes, but it works.
From 30 entrants
The combinations get too complex. Who actually plays at which level? Two evenly matched teams meeting in the final instead of the group stage is a real letdown.
For open tournaments
You don’t know the outside entrants. You have no idea whether that one sign-up is an advanced player or a beginner. Guessing is not a strategy.
With Slams
The algorithm takes the DSS rating as its base, asks for a self-rating as a fallback and generates a proposal you can always fine-tune. Ready in seconds.
What the automatic seeding does
Snake draft by playing strength
Entrants are sorted by DSS rating and split with a snake draft. Every group gets an even mix of strong and weak.
Self-rating as a fallback
No rating? No problem. Players pick Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. Slams uses that as a temporary starting value.
Preview and fine-tune by hand
The algorithm generates a proposal. You see the preview, tweak it and only go live once you’re happy.
Transparent to players
Every player sees why they’re in their group. "Seeded on your rating of 8.2." No arguments.
Level groups optional
Choose one balanced ranking or separate A/B/C groups. The algorithm adapts to your choice.
Works for every format
Group tournament, Americano, Mexicano or knockout. The matchmaking works whatever the format.
Frequently asked questions
What is automatic group seeding?
With automatic group seeding, entrants are split across groups based on their playing strength (rating). Every team is assigned a group so the average strength per group is as even as possible. That delivers fairer, more exciting matches than a random or manual draw.
How does the seeding work in Slams?
Slams uses a snake-draft algorithm. All teams are sorted from strong to weak. The strongest team goes to group A, the second to B, the third to C, then back again. That gives every group an even mix of levels and keeps the average rating per group almost identical.
What if entrants don’t have a rating yet?
Players without a DSS rating history choose their level at sign-up: Beginner (7.5), Intermediate (8.0) or Advanced (8.5). That temporary value is used for the matchmaking. After the tournament they get a real rating based on their results.
Can I still adjust the seeding after the automatic calculation?
Yes. Slams always shows a preview first. You can drag or swap teams by hand before the seeding is finalised. That way you combine the speed of the algorithm with your own knowledge of the entrants.
Does this also work for Americano and Mexicano tournaments?
Yes. The automatic seeding works for every tournament format where entrants are split across groups or courts. For Americano and Mexicano, level is factored into the first-round draw.
