Automatic ratings

Every player knows
exactly where they stand.

Slams calculates a fresh rating after every match, on the same scale as the Dutch KNLTB. Players watch their own progress, coaches see the level of the club.

How it works

1

Match played

Two teams play a match and enter the result through the club page.

2

Slams algorithm runs

Based on the result and the rating gap, Slams calculates the new ratings for both teams.

3

Profile updated

Every player sees their new rating on their profile right away. The chart shows their progress across the season.

4

Standings live

The ladder standings update automatically. Everyone can see who sits at the top.

What the rating system does for your club

Fair ratings, visible live. Without the admin having to do a thing.

Fair and transparent

The Slams algorithm factors in the level of your opponent. Beat a strong team and it counts for more than beating a weaker one.

Progress across the season

Every player has a rating chart on their profile. It makes improvement visible and gives a reason to keep playing.

Public on the club page

The rating sits on the public player profile. New members instantly get a feel for the level of the club.

No manual work

Ratings update automatically after every result entered. The admin never has to lift a finger.

Frequently asked questions

Slams keeps its own rating for every player, on the same scale as the Dutch KNLTB. It is not the official KNLTB rating. How much your rating moves after a match depends on the level of your opponent. Beat a stronger player and it counts for more. Lose to a weaker player and that result counts for more too.

The rating runs from 1.0000 to 10.9999, with four decimals, and lower is better: 1 is the top level, 9 is a beginner. Winning lowers your rating, losing raises it. A new player without official matches starts at 8.999. The admin can enter a different starting rating for each player, for example the rating someone already has with the KNLTB.

Yes. Every player has a profile with a chart of their rating throughout the season. It is visible on the public club page.

Slams calculates ratings at team level. The team rating is the average of the two players. After the match, the individual ratings of both players are updated.

Yes. Ratings update for ladder, tournament and league matches; a walkover does not count. That way you build a consistent picture of every player’s level, whatever the format. You can also switch the rating off per competition.
