What is Americano?
In an Americano you play as an individual but with constantly changing partners. New pairs are formed each round, so over the course of the tournament you play with and against everyone. The player with the most points at the end wins.
- 1Random pairing each roundSlams automatically generates new pairs for every round, so no one ever gets the same partner twice.
- 2Playing for pointsEvery match is played to an agreed number of points (usually 16, 24 or 32). Each rally you win counts as one point.
- 3Individual scoringAfter each match the points are split between the players: if your team wins 14–10, you personally earn 14 points.
- 4Keep playing until everyone has played with everyoneThe tournament runs until everyone has played at least once with every other participant.
- 5Winner decided on total pointsThe player with the highest points total after all rounds wins the Americano.

At least 8 players on 2 courts. It works best when the number of players is a multiple of 4, so every court is always in use. With more players you simply scale up the number of courts.
Expect around 2 hours for a standard 24-point Americano. A match then lasts about 10–12 minutes on average. With more participants you can opt for a time limit per match.
Yes, that is actually one of the strengths of Americano. Because the teams change every round, the level of the teams evens out over the course of the tournament. If the differences in level are very large, consider a Mexicano instead.
