Has someone dropped out due to an injury or a cancellation? In Slams you can replace that player without breaking up the team. Slams uses a swap model: the substitute takes over the spot of the player who dropped out, and the team stays a duo. That means you don't have to redo any grouping and the schedule stays intact.
Which formats does this work for?
Substitutes only work in formats with fixed duo teams: league (a competition with groups) and tournament. In individual-player formats such as Americano, Mexicano, King of the Court, Beat the Box and Team Clash you won't see the substitution option, because there is no fixed duo to edit. Read more about the formats in league groups and the tournament.
Does the rating stay accurate?
Yes, this happens automatically. Matches that have been played are linked to the player who was in the team at that moment. So the rating history of the player who dropped out stays in place, and every match from the substitution onwards counts towards the new player. You don't have to correct anything by hand.
Three ways to substitute
Open the part in your dashboard, go to the Participants tab and click Replace player next to the relevant team. First choose who is dropping out (the first or second player of the team) and then one of these methods:
- Existing player: choose a player who is already in your club. The swap is applied immediately.
- New substitute: enter a name and (optionally) an email address. Slams creates the player or links to an existing one, and applies the swap right away.
- Invitation by link: generate a link that you send to the substitute, for example via WhatsApp or email. They fill in their own name and email and confirm their spot.
Working with an invitation link
If you go with the link, a pending invitation appears next to the team. You copy the link with the Copy link button or have it emailed straight away. The link is valid for 7 days. As long as the substitute hasn't confirmed yet, you can cancel the invitation. As soon as the substitute fills in their details on the link and confirms, they take over the spot and the note "is a substitute for ..." appears below the team.
A player cannot be chosen as a substitute if they are already the other half of the same team. This prevents an accidental duplicate. Do you want to add a player instead of replacing one? See creating teams.
